Police Incident Report: July 23 to 29

The Valley Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in town. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.

 

Chester

 

Wednesday, July 23 to

Friday, July 25

No arrests were made and no incidents were reported.

 

Saturday, July 26

No arrests were made.

 

• The report of a disturbance at 51 Railroad Avenue was investigated at 11:47 a.m. by Trooper Robert Zdrojeski. No details were available.

 

Sunday, July 27 to

Deep River

• At 3:30 pm. Trooper Sypher reported that an arrest warrant was applied for following the report of domestic violence that occurred on July 20 at a residence on Castle Heights Road. The victim was a female.

 

Friday, July 25 to

Sunday, July 27

No arrests were made and no incidents were reported.

 

Monday, July 28

• A 37-year-old Killingworth man was arrested at 6:30 a.m. on a warrant charging him with intimidation in the second degree and criminal mischief in the fourth degree after he surrendered to police.

• At 4:25 p.m. police reported that a 2008 Wildfire was being driven on the shoulder of Route 154 southbound near Rattling Valley Road by a 42-year-old Old Lyme man when he was struck by a 1999 Dodge Caravan driven by a 38-year-old Essex man. The Caravan driver was in the northbound lane of Route 154 when he attempted to turn west into a private lot. He then struck the Wildfire, “who he was unable to see due to a vehicle blocking his line of sight,” the investigating trooper wrote. A 47-year-old woman of Union Street was a witness to the accident. No injuries were reported at the scene and no enforcement action was indicated.

 

Tuesday, July 29

• A 52-year-old man of Castle Heights was arrested at 9:45 a.m. on a warrant charging him with strangulation in the second degree, assault in the third degree, threatening, and disorderly conduct. He was processed and held on a $20,000 surety bond pending court arraignment on the following day.

• At 3:15 p.m. Trooper Gwiazda reported that sometime between the hours of 12:01 a.m. and 5:15 a.m. forced entry was gained through the front door of the Scandinavian Union Social Club on Riverview Avenue and $1,000 in cash was taken.

 

Essex

 

Wednesday, July 23

• A 40-year-old Deep River man was arrested at 12:33 a.m. and charged with disorderly conduct after police were dispatched back to the residence from a prior 911 call. The arrestee was released on a $500 non-surety bond pending an Aug. 6 court date.

 

Thursday, July 24

• A 51-year-old Rocky Hill man was arrested at 11:29 a.m. on a warrant charging him with failure to appear in the second degree. He was held on a $2,500 surety bond and transported to the Corrigan Correctional Institute at 2:48 p.m. pending a July 26 court date.

• A 35-year-old man of Highland Terrace in Ivoryton was arrested on a warrant charging him with using/tampering with a motor vehicle without permission and criminal trover in the second degree. He was held on a $1,000 surety bond and transported to Corrigan Correctional Institute pending a July 28 court date.

• At 3:43 p.m. Officer April Pawlow reported that a tour bus operated by a white male, aged 50 to 60, with short gray hair, side-swiped an unoccupied 2006 Toyota Highlander that was parked in front of the Griswold Inn on Main Street near Ferry Street and left the scene. A witness to the accident informed police the tour bus was picking up people from the inn and described the bus driver, whom police are trying to locate. Witnesses to the accident are asked to call Officer Pawlow at 860-767-1054.

Monday, July 28

No arrests were made.

 

• At 6:20 a.m. Trooper Darwin Garnett reported that sometime between the hours of 11 p.m. on July 27 and 2 a.m. on July 28 a Calamari box truck containing wire aluminum rims, brass, and copper was stolen from the recycling company’s yard at 20 Town Dump Road.
