Around 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 26, the body of a 73-year-old man
was found at his summer cottage on Bliss
Street in Old Saybrook. At first the death was
labeled “suspicious” when concerned family members reported that his vehicle, a
1998 Honda Accord, was believed missing.
Sgt. Jay Rankin, with the assistance of Det. Charles Mercer and
Officer Jeffrey DePerry of the Old Saybrook Police Department, began an
in-depth investigation Tuesday evening. The Connecticut State Police Major
Crimes Squad assisted with the investigated.
Police confirmed the man’s death was by natural causes—as
determined by the state medical examiner’s office—possibly heart-related due to
the man’s history of heart disease, on Friday, Aug. 29, just before press time.
The reason the Honda was reported missing (or where it ended up)
has not been explained by police and the man’s identify still has not been released.
