Police Incident Report: Aug. 21 to 27

The Guilford Courier publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in town. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for length and content.  

 

Thursday, Aug. 21

• A 49-year-old Madison resident was charged on a warrant with sixth-degree larceny in connection with an Aug. 8 investigation into a vehicle description given with a report of a shoplifter running out of Wal*Mart, 900 Boston Post Road. He was scheduled to appear in court Sept. 2.

• A wallet was found on North Street.

• Two youths, who were “rude and mouthy” after resident refused offer to buy magazines from them, were reported for peddling without a permit, Church Street, 8:37 p.m.

• Theft, building materials stolen from Guilford Land Trust property’s Timberland trails, Route 80.

• Family dispute, Church Street, 9:02 p.m.

• Criminal mischief, parked vehicle scratched with a key at Guilford Yacht Club, 379 Whitfield St.

 

Friday, Aug. 22

No arrests were made.

• Police received a report after the fact of a fight breaking out at Guilford Mooring Restaurant, 505 Whitfield Street. The fight had been calmed at the time of the call, 1:18 a.m. Police were given license plate information connected to one male involved in the incident.

• A laptop computer was reported lost after its owner left the laptop on top of a vehicle and then drove off, Three Mile Course, 10:18 a.m.

• Criminal mischief, damage to shack on Grass Island, viewed from Farmer’s Wharf Road.

• Fraud, 12 checks cashed without permission, Boston Post Road, 1000 block.

• Police located a rusty propane tank reported as a public hazard “rolling around” by the I-95 Exit 57 entrance ramp, 6:25 p.m. It was brought to the town transfer station.

• Assistance to a person with a football injury was requested at Long Hill Park, 6:27 p.m.

 

Saturday, Aug. 23

No arrests were made.

• Boating violation, boat pulling boarder on Lake Quonnipaug in violation of town ordinance; also no spotter on-board, 11:28 a.m. The boat was not located when police arrived.

• Suspicious person, two males on foot going door-to-door, claiming to sell home improvement items, Whitethorn Drive; 12:58 p.m. The males reportedly had no business identification. Police were given information on their vehicle and its Pennsylvania license plate.

• Three baseball gloves were reported lost at the Little League baseball field at Adams Middle School, 233 Church St.

 

Sunday, Aug. 24

• A 21-year-old East Haven resident was charged on a warrant with third-degree forgery and sixth-degree larceny in connection with a report of a worker at a Church Street address removing a check from a checkbook; check cashed for $150, July 10. He was scheduled to appear in court Aug. 25.

• An injured wild turkey was reported on Christopher Lane, 9:21 a.m. The turkey was last seen going into woods in the area.

• Breach of peace, caller reports argument with boat owner over parking space at town marina, Farmer’s Wharf Road, 2:28 p.m.

• Theft, caller reports his wallet stolen while he was at Wal*Mart earlier, 900 Boston Post Road. The incident was reported at 4:59 p.m.

• Suspicious activity, unknown person possibly using vacant home, Elm Street.

• Fireworks discharged “all night” at a cul-de-sac were reported on Broad Hill Circle, 11:46 p.m. The area was quiet when police arrived.

 

Monday, Aug. 25

• A 51-year–old Kenneth Circle resident was charged with disorderly conduct after police responded to a report of a family dispute at his home, 7:58 p.m. He was scheduled to appear in court Aug. 26.

• An officer escorted three juvenile males to a home on Whitfield Street after they were spotted in the vicinity of Whitfield and Water Street, 2:36 a.m.

• Criminal mischief, wood table at playground destroyed over weekend, A.W. Cox School, 143 Three Mile Course.

• Late report, theft, auto accessories taken from vehicle parked at train station Aug. 22; Old Whitfield Street.

• Theft from auto, iPhone taken from vehicle while parked at Deli Unlimited, 1099 Boston Post Road; incident occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m.

• Family dispute, Burt Road, 6:26 p.m.

• Family dispute, Boston Street, 9:54 p.m.

 

Tuesday, Aug. 26

• A 20-year-old Hawthorn Road resident was charged on a warrant with disorderly conduct and second-degree assault and a 20 year-old Boston Post Road resident was charged on a warrant with disorderly conduct in connection with a report of a July 22 family dispute involving aggravated assault at Boston Post Road address. The two were scheduled to appear in court Aug. 27.

• Noise complaint, loud machine; power washer working outside Walgreen’s, 12:32 a.m. The washer was gone when police arrived.

• Criminal mischief, apples thrown at residence, Donald Road, 6:30 a.m.

• Family dispute, Meadow Street, 7:03 p.m.

• A caller reported hearing the sound of a saw at the town train station, Old Whitfield Street, 8:21 p.m. Nothing was located by police; police found no damage to cars parked at the station.

• A resident reported being harassed by an ex-spouse, 10:32 p.m.

 

Wednesday, Aug. 27

No arrests were made.

• Animal nuisance, llama in roadway, Flag Marsh Road, 7:05 a.m.

• Theft, catalytic converter cut from vehicle overnight, Boston Post Road, 2300 block.

• A resident reported finding a tractor on his Great Hill Road property; vehicle had been put there sometime overnight.

• An unwanted female was reported at the home of a Guilford Court resident, 3:30 p.m.

• A person came to police headquarters to reported being harassed by an ex-spouse, 6:37 p.m.

 

From Aug. 21 to 27, the Guilford Police Department received 261 calls for service. Police made five arrests, investigated 11 motor vehicle accidents, and issued seven infractions, 41 written warnings, and one verbal warning. Police conducted two child safety seat installations.
